Key Responsibilities

 

The Senior Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer - (Data Center Infrastructure) will lead the design, engineering, and stamping of plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems supporting mission-critical data center environments. This role is responsible for delivering fully coordinated, code-compliant design packages, including chilled-water distribution, water treatment and makeup systems, stormwater and drainage infrastructure, and NFPA-compliant fire suppression systems. The position requires an active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the authority to stamp drawings for permitting and construction.

 

This individual will serve as a technical leader, ensuring design accuracy, regulatory compliance, and successful coordination with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

 

  • Develop, review, and stamp plumbing and fire protection design drawings, including piping schematics, water treatment systems, and drainage infrastructure.
  • Design and specify fire suppression systems, including wet pipe, pre-action, and gaseous/clean agent systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable NFPA, ASPE, and local plumbing and fire protection codes.
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineering teams to align plumbing systems with chilled-water and makeup-water requirements.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to plumbing and fire protection engineers, including reviewing and validating design packages.
  • Collaborate with contractors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to resolve design and compliance matters and support permitting and construction processes.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Active Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) credential with plumbing and fire protection stamping authority.
  • 8–12 years of experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems for mission-critical facilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation software.
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 2001, and applicable local plumbing and fire protection codes.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Multi-state PE licensure or an active NCEES Record.
  • Experience stamping plumbing and fire protection systems for mission-critical facilities (data centers, critical infrastructure, etc.).
  • Familiarity with FM Global standards, insurance-driven requirements, or third-party engineering reviews.
  • Experience supporting construction phases, including RFIs, site coordination, and field modifications.
  • Knowledge of water efficiency, sustainability practices, and materials optimization.
  • Experience with modular or prefabricated plumbing and fire protection systems.
